Saints Row is the long-awaited return to open-world, gang-centric mayhem that audiences love (with a few notable changes to the series’ tone and sense of humor). The result is the upcoming 2022 reboot simply known as Saints Row. The immediate result of that attempt, 2017’s Agents of Mayhem, failed to impress audiences, so Volition decided to go back to what works while also updating that formula for more modern times. In 2015, Volition sowed the seeds for a reboot with Saints Row – Gat out of Hell.

Sometimes repetitive, sometimes eye-rolling, and sometimes just plain busted, Saints Row 2022 is far from perfect, but that doesn’t stop it from being a chaotic good time.In 2006, Volition released its own take on the open-world crime simulator genre, Saints Row, and the series soon flourished. Despite some tech issues and inconsistent mission design, this kinder, gentler incarnation of Saints Row is probably a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, the main campaign is a little less successful, often falling back on repetitive action, gunplay and set pieces that go on too long. The game rewards you for almost everything, so your time is never wasted. There is always something to keep you occupied, most of it served up in bite-sized missions that are fun to check off. Its open world is expansive and entertaining to explore. Saints Row is an ambitious reboot of a popular franchise.
